Re download Read Email from Google mail

Last week we were having a conversation at work on private email systems and the annoyance of Google mail that once you had read a mail it would not re download after a reinstall of your system, At Twynham we use Exchange so this is never a problem, but it was becoming a real problem for me as all my home email is a based at a Google address so the only way to read old emails was to log on to Gmail and search from there.

In the past I have tried marking the mails as unread but still no joy. So this weekend I thought I would do some research on the problem and found that if you log onto Gmail and go to –

Settings –> Forwarding and POP/IMAP -> POP Download -> Enable POP for all mail (even mail that’s already been downloaded)

And Hallelujah all of my mail from April 2007 starting flowing back into my Outlook 2010 mailbox they do download in 250 mails at a time chunk’s so give it time.
