Content Query Webpart filtering

A couple of days ago Dave asked me to write some post on his weblog. Normally I write my posts in Dutch on my blog (some of the screenshots will be in Dutch). In the following weeks I will translate some of my older posts in English. This is the first one.

With the Content Query Webpart (CQWP) you can show information from one site on another site without copying the information. You can also sort or filter this information. By default not all fields are available the sort/filter. In this post I will explain how you can fix this.

  1. Add a CQWP to you page (Site actions –> Edit Page –> Add Webpart)
  2. Export the webpart to a xml file

  3. Open the xml file with notepad (or some xml editor) and find the node AdditionalFilterFields. This node contains the customs fields to sort of filter the data. You can add multiple fields and divide them with a “,”.

  4. Save this file and import it to you page again.
  5. Click Site Actions –> Edit Page –> and add the new webpart
  6. In the Webpartpane open the webpart gallery.

Choose import and select you edited xml file.
  7. Now you can add the webpart to your page and filter on the custom fields.
