This posts is a follow up to the posts that Dave asked me to do a few weeks ago about how we use SharePoint 2010 and InfoPath 2010 to create forms to collect data, this post shows how the data collected during our recent Academic Review day is presented to the users within the School
Using The Data
All of the data collected during the Academic Review day is stored in a list on our SharePoint 2010 farm and as you can imagine with 1300 students this is a lot of data, so how do we make use of it.
So lets look at our users one by one
The Student
Under the old paper version students wrote their targets in the back of their School planner, These were probably never looked at from one review day to another. Using the new online system the student is reminded of their targets every time they logon to our Learning Gateway.
The Form Tutor & Learning Manager
The form tutor & Learning Manager can now use a link on the learning gateway which will present them with all the relevant data for the students in their form or year group
Filtering The Data
All of these pages that present data to the user are constructed using 2 web parts
- Filter
- List
The list web part has its view modified so that it only presents the user with relevant detail, for the student this just means their targets, for teachers it also shows whether they met last years targets.
The filter web part is added to the page and is a current user filter. This then passes the data to a field in the list web part which holds the active directory account ID of the student for who the review was done in the case of the student view. For the teacher views it passes the data to a field that holds the active directory account ID of the form tutor or learning manager respectively.
I also added an audience setting to the list view on the front page so it only appears to students.
All of this means that the data collected on Academic Review day is is to find and be used by teaching staff and the students
