About Chris
My name is Chris McKinley and I have been working in IT for a relatively short period of time. I’ve always had an interest in computers and IT and being born in the 80s I’ve very much grown up with emerging technologies around me. An interest in the way things work and all things logical led me down a pretty academic route. Maths, Physics and Chemistry (and a bit of Music for balance) at A-level set me up for an Engineering degree at Exeter University; during my 3 years there my interest in websites, SQL and programming really began to take shape.
I started at Twynham School as an assistant in the data office playing around with MIS systems and spreadsheets, from there I got noticed by Dave after I did some pretty innovative stuff with Reporting Services and SQL to analyse the schools GCSE and A-Level results. I joined Dave’s team and from there cut my teeth in the SharePoint world, working with Darren we moved chunks of the Reporting Services work over to SharePoint web parts written in C#. After visiting a few schools that used SharePoint 2007 we realised that we really were on the sharp edge of things and winning the BECTA ICT award really vindicated what we were doing.
A highlight for me so far has been attending the BETT show on the Microsoft stand talking about Twynham School and what we have achieved with SharePoint – www.twynham6thform.com is just one example!
